Eileen (Margaret Eileen Stuart) Underhill (née George) Badminton champion b. April 1, 1889, Moosomin, Sask.; d. July 31, 1988, Vancouver. Moved to Vancouver in 1910. Considered to be B.C.’s all-time best female badminton player, she dominated the sport from 1927-36. With husband, Jack (John Edward) Underhill (b. Sept. 3, 1902, Vancouver; d. July 14, 1974, Vancouver), won National Doubles Championship for three consecutive years. Five times B.C. mixed doubles champions (1928-31, 1935). Jack was Canada’s top male badminton star (1925-47), winning numerous B.C. and national championships. The Underhills were the first husband-and-wife team in the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame (1970).
